Eating Habits and Obesity - Don’t Watch TV
If your family has the habit of tuning in to a favorite television show while eating dinner, the habit could have a negative effect on the family’s diet. A new study form the Journal of the American Dietetic Assoc. looked into how viewing TV affects eating habits and found that those who ate dinner with the TV on consumed fewer fruits and vegetables than those who dined TV-free.
Researchers speculate that when watching television it turns the focus away from making sure everyone is enjoying a well-balanced meal.
TIP: Instead of setting your agenda around the television shows, turn the meal time into an opportunity for each family member to share in expressing their favorite part of the day.
